š Apple + Plum Syrup
For this syrup, we combined apples, plums, cinnamon and cardamom together and finished with adding some lemon juice to create a lovely syrup that tastes like apple cider. As the apple and plums cook down and become soft, ends up turning into applesauce so you can get two recipes within on.
Apples are high in flavinoids (Quercitin, Epicatechin and Procyanidin B2) and phenolic compounds, pectin, enzymes, Vitamin B6, C and K, beta-carotene, riboflavin, thiamine, potassium, phosphorus and calcium. These vitamins and minerals help to support the digestive, cardiovascular and immune systems along with supporting healthy skin. In Chinese Medicine, apples help with nourishing the yin fluid of the body along with getting rid of excess phlegm. They enter the heat, liver, lung and spleen channels.
Plums contain high amounts of calcium, potassium and Vitamin C. They have anti-inflammatory properties, helps to manage blood sugar levels, support cognitive function and heart health.Plums, similar to apples, support nourishing the yin fluid of the body, promotes the circulation of qi and gets rid of excess water accumulations. They enter the large intestine, stomach, spleen, urinary bladder and liver channels.
Lemons contain citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, bioflavionoids, pectin, limonolene, hesperetin and tangeretin. These vitamins and minerals help support digestive function, ease sore throats, support healthy skin function, improve immune function and help with the absorption of iron and other constituents in other foods when combined together. Lemons are cold in temperature and sour in flavor. They enter the lung, spleen, kidney, liver and gallbladder meridians. They support the circulation of qi and blood, clear heat, eliminate toxins and dissolve phlegm.
The two aromatic herbs chosen, cardamom and cinnamon synergize well with these two herbs and add warmth to balance out the coolness of the apples and plums. Both herbs are also helpful for dispersing wind.
