Grief Tending and Relaxation Practice
Grief tending is a process of practicing emotional well-being by looking at the ways that grief is impacting us and learning to process what the language of grief is within us and how it shows up within us.
In the autumn of 2022, I participated in a grief retreat on the Oregon Coast facilitated by Alyssa Ackerman (she/her). During the retreat, we did a practice of going and talking to the ocean about our grief with the support of one other person witnessing us and tending to what we may be needing as we process. It was a very profound and moving experience and I wanted to slowly create videos for folks who don't have access going to the sea or ocean and can do this practice at home or wherever is convenient for them so we can go to the sea whenever we felt called, even from witnessing it through a screen.
We currently have four sea meditations that you can utilize and we'll be adding more to this blog post so you have the opportunity to go deeper along with guided meditations taking you to the sea.
You can use it in various ways. You can lay down or find a comfortable sitting position with your eyes closed and visualize talking to the sea or just listening to the sea. You could also start the video and use the visual as if you were talking to the see. Notice what feels comfortable for you and know you can do multiple variations too.
We hope you enjoy the meditations and may it be a helpful tool for you for relaxation as well as for tending to grief.
